Go look. If you can get into your attic, find the flexible duct coming off the bathroom fan and follow it. If it ends in the insulation, points at a soffit, or has separated from a roof cap, you have been humidifying your attic for years. Above the duct end you will usually find dark staining on the sheathing in a rough circle.
Cleaning that sheathing without fixing the duct is pointless and we will not quote it that way. The job is: remediate the affected sheathing, then run the duct to a proper roof or gable termination with a backdraft damper, insulated so it does not condense inside the run.
